TExES Test Preparation Manuals
About the TExES Tests
These test preparation manuals are designed to help you prepare for the TExES test in the field in which you are seeking certification. Their purpose is to familiarize you with the competencies to be tested, test question formats and pertinent study resources. EPP staff may also find this information useful as they help their students prepare for careers as Texas educators.
If you have a disability or health-related need and require test preparation materials in an alternate format, contact ETS Disability Services. ETS is committed to producing alternate formats (e.g., braille, recorded audio, reader's script, large print) as quickly as possible. Production times vary.
Test Preparation Manuals may not be reproduced for commercial use but may be copied for educational purposes. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) would appreciate credit for the material used and a copy of the reprint.
Key Features of the Manuals
- Breakdown of the test
- A list of the domains and competencies that will be tested
- Strategies for answering multiple-choice questions

New preparation manuals are enhanced with features that make them more interactive - they contain bookmarks and links to help you navigate to the different sections of the manuals.
If you have any questions after reading these manuals or you would like additional information about the TExES tests or the educator standards, please visit the TEA website.
NOTE: These TExES preparation manuals are the only TExES test study materials endorsed by Texas Education Agency (TEA). Other preparation materials may not accurately reflect the content of the test or the policies and procedures of the TExES program.

The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) was published in May 2013 with revisions to the criteria for the diagnosis and classifications of mental disorders. In the interest of fairness, and to allow time for educator preparation programs to integrate such changes into their curricula, test materials for specific assessments will continue to reference the terminology, criteria and classifications referred to in the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR) until further notice. See addendums below.
